LNI AC Teams Event - The "David Curtis Cup"
The Lower North Island Teams event was successfully held at the Paraparaumu Croquet Club which was hosted by the WCA this year and managed by Bob McKenzie with the Tournament Referee Graeme Roberts and assisted by Dennis Kerr and Anne McKenzie as referees and umpire.
The event was held over 2 days with the rain holding off but the windy and very cold conditions persisted through out, however, not dampening the great spirit and companionship that this tournament brings on an annual basis, and this weekend tournament was no exception, with 36 games of AC being played, consisting of 12 games of doubles being contested on Saturday and 24 games of Singles on the Sunday.
Many of the local teams (P.N & Wellington players travelled home after play on Sat to return the following morning, with the remaining 10 players and management, enjoying an evening meal at the "China Beach" Restaurant).
The Wellington team consisting of Baubre Murray, Mark Huttley, Bruce Manuge and Ross Dalley, proved to be a winning one and made an outstanding clean sweep of the tournament winning all their doubles and the singles games.
With the Manawatu-Wanganui team runners up.

An AC/GC Regional Challenge - Man-Wang V's Wellington Sunday 20th February 2022 @ GC/Pram & AC/Feilding
Despite heavy rain at Paraparaumu for the GC and the original venue Feilding for AC, the challenges continued. Because the lawns at Feilding received a downpour shortly after we all arrived and the lawns looked likely to be unplayable for several hours. The AC event moved to Rose Gardens. We didn’t restart until about 11.00am, reduced the time limit to 2 hrs 30 minutes (from 2 hrs 45m) and finished close to 5.00pm.
Play at Paraparaumu started late but the normal 5 rounds could still be fitted in. The GC component at Paraparaumu finished with a 14-14 tie, meaning that the overall result depended on the AC component of the challenge, which M-W won 9 games to 3.
The teams were:
Wellington:
AC: Tom Berryman (Plimmerton), Wayne Gair (Capt - Plimmerton), Janet Boutel (Kelburn Municipal), Bob McKenzie (Paraparaumu), Mike Theobald (Waimarie HV), Anne McKenzie (Pmu), Nikhil Taduka (WHV) and Beverley Berryman (Plim).
GC: Dick Smith (Wellington), Shaun Theobald (WHV), Andy Fairweather (Wgtn), Roel Ymker (Plim), Sue White (Plim), Ross Dalley (Wgtn), John Strode-Penny (Waikanae) and Lynne Dalley (Wgtn).
Manawatu-Wanganui:
AC: Josh Smith (Capt - Rose Gardens), Doug Van Belle (Levin), Callum McKinnon (RG), Malcolm Hutchins (Wanganui), Pam Green (RG), Kay Oldfield (RG, late replacement for Monica Huisman), Neil Stantiall (RG) and Terry Klein (RG)
GC: Max Charlton (RG), John Watson (Feilding), Lorraine Pickett (RG), Neville Lapthorne (Levin), Amy Gust (Marton), Margaret Snelling (RG), John Doolan (RG) and Marilyn Vallance (Marton)
